BRERC Commercial Data Search Charges (2017)

Charges have not increased over the last 2 years.
Charges reflect the cost of providing the service and are not a charge for the data.

NB. Charges are shown for:

  • a SITE up to 1.0km² in area (or up to 1.0km in length)
  • and a 0.5km SITE BUFFER.

Uplift charges will apply to:

  • a larger SITE BUFFER;
  • a larger SITE AREA;
  • SITES where only a Central Point (with Grid Reference) is given, and the SITE BUFFER RADIUS is >0.5km.

1. Charges for a Standard Commercial Data Search

  • For information on whether you will be deemed to be a Commercial user, see the Data Search Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
  • There is a minimum charge of £90 (excl VAT) for a Commercial Data Search.
  • Commercial charges shown exclude VAT.
  • We are usually able to complete straightforward Data Searches within 3 working days (on receipt of the Enquiry Search Agreement Form); and we aim to complete all Data Searches within ten working days.
  • For a faster Data Search turnaround (subject to availability), charges are uplifted by 25%.
  • For a SITE up to 1.0km² in area with a SITE BUFFER RADIUS of 0.5km, charges for the individual Data Elements are:

    • Notable and Protected Species £35
    • Non-Notable Species £35
    • BLISS £35
    • Strategic Nature Areas £15
    • Invasive Weeds £15
    • Extended search for Bats £35
    • Habitats, including Priority Habitat £30
    • Non-statutory Sites £40
    • Statutory Sites £50
    • Local Surveys £50

  • 1.1 LARGER SITE BUFFER RADIUS (up to 12.0km) for SITE WITH DEFINED BOUNDARIES
The Charging Calculator on the BRERC website includes automatic calculations for several SITE BUFFER RADIUS sizes up to 12.0km. For a SITE with Defined Boundaries and a SITE BUFFER RADIUS >0.5km, the charge is increased by applying a multiplier: 1.0km +0.25, 1.5km +0.25, 2.0km +0.25, 2.5km +0.25, 3.0km +0.25, etc.

eg For a SITE with Defined Boundaries and a SITE BUFFER >0.5km, the charging formula is:
The Total element charge = (1 + (SITE BUFFER MULTIPLIER * SITE BUFFER RADIUS in km)) * Data element charge.
    NB Minimum charges apply

  • 1.2 LARGER SITE BUFFER RADIUS (up to 12.0km) for SITE SHOWN AS A CENTRAL POINT ONLY
If you decline to provide us with a map showing your SITE AREA with defined boundaries, you may provide us with a site map with a CENTRAL POINT marked and an accurate GRID REFERENCE (at least 6-figures). In order to maintain the viability of the Data Search service, Data Searches with a SITE SHOWN AS A CENTRAL POINT and SITE BUFFER RADIUS >0.5km will incur an increased uplift charge.

    For a CENTRAL POINT SITE and a SITE BUFFER RADIUS >0.5km, the charge is increased by applying a multiplier: 1.0km +0.35, 1.5km +0.4, 2.0km +0.45, 2.5km +0.5, 3.0km +0.55, etc.

eg For a CENTRAL POINT SITE and a SITE BUFFER >0.5km, the charging formula is:
The Total element charge = (1 + (SITE BUFFER MULTIPLIER * SITE BUFFER RADIUS in km)) * Data element charge.
    NB Minimum charges apply

2. Charges for a Non-Standard Commercial Data Search/Request

  • 2.1 LARGE BUFFER RADIUS (over 12.0km)
The Charging Calculator on the BRERC website includes automatic calculations for several SITE BUFFER sizes up to 12.0km. For a SITE with Defined Boundaries, the SITE BUFFER sizes not included in the Charging calculator use the following formula:
The Total element charge = (1 + (SITE BUFFER MULTIPLIER * BUFFER RADIUS in km)) * Data element charge.
    NB Minimum charges apply

  • 2.2 TWO DIFFERENT SITE BUFFER sizes
For a data search with 2 DIFFERENT SITE BUFFER RADIUS sizes, eg 1.0km² for Notable Species and 2.0km² for Habitats:
Calculate the charges for both SITE BUFFER sizes, then add them together.
    NB Minimum charges apply

3. Request for Specific Species Datasets

  • Requests for entire or wide ranging species datasets will be given careful consideration, in particular if the species is sensitive or protected.
  • Provision of this data is discretionary.
  • The data may need to be restricted before it can be supplied.
  • The limitations of use will be stated in Metadata provided with each dataset.
  • If possible /appropriate, credit should be given to BRERC as the dataset provider.
  • If possible /appropriate, BRERC will request a copy of any raw data and/or final report produced.
  • Requests will always require approval by the BRERC Manager.

  • Requests for Specific Species Datasets are charged at £35 per species dataset
(in line with the Data Search charges for Notable and Non-Notable species records).
  • Minimum charges apply.
