Guide To Submitting Records

Many records that Bristol Regional Environmental Records Centre receives are from the general public.

If you wish to contribute please provide the following information with your record:

Species
Locality where it was recorded
Six figure grid reference
Date
Determiner (if you did not identify the specimen)
Your name
Your address or telephone number in case we need to get in touch with you

And remember: If in doubt, leave it out! (if you cannot be sure of any of the above details, please either seek verification or do not send us the record)

If you have records you would like to send to us, there are several different methods you can use.

You can request or download and print various Recording Forms. You can then fill these in and send them into BRERC via post.

Alternatively, you can download a Recording Template, which is an electronic spreadsheet that you can save and input your records into. When you have entered the records, simply e-mail the speadsheet back to BRERC. Use the following e-mail address:

For more information on recording and how to do it please see the Local Patch Initiative which is a definitive guide to recording in your local area. We also have a Guide to Understanding and Using Grid References (Adobe PDF format) which is well worth reading.
