Charging and Submission Guidelines for Enquiries from the Public

BRERC has traditionally not set any charge for non-commercial enquiries – part of our role as a records centre is to make information freely available to the public. However, provision of a 'free-of-charge' service is at BRERC's discretion. Recently we have noticed a trend towards bigger enquiries, which take up more of our time and resources. While most of these larger enquiries come from commercial sources, some emanate from the public.

We do not wish to charge for any enquiries that fall within our 'public' remit. Therefore, we would stress that to ensure we can meet the deadlines for enquiries from the public, they should be submitted well before any deadlines, such as dissertation deadlines or publishing dates for a book.

99% of enquiries get turned around in two weeks from the reciept of a signed Information Request Form. However, sometimes a heavy workload means that this is not possible, and our legal obligations to complete commercial enquiries mean that enquiries from the public get de-prioritised.

To help us prevent this, please make sure you submit your enquiry well before you actually need the data. In turn, we will be able to get the data back to you in plenty of time.
