And an idea of what you can do to contribute
Avon Butterfly Project (ABP) is concerned with recording butterflies in the former Avon area. If you are interested in this group of species, and would like to learn more about them, where they occur in Avon, and how to see them and submit your sightings to BRERC, then please consider joining the group.
The ABP and BRERC recently published the local distribution atlas 'Butterflies of the Bristol Region', which contains an analysis of many years worth of data gathered by the group members.
However, there is much for group members still to do – as well as gathering information on six priority target species, the book highlights the decline in many other species. It is therefore vital that continued efforts are made to monitor all butterflies in the Bristol region, so that we can continue to track the status of butterflies in our area.
If you are concerned about the size of the task of identifying the many different butterfly species that exist in our area, you may wish to read this account of 'Visiting Butterflies of the Bristol Region'.
We are keen to encourage people both young and old, and of any experience, to join this group and play an active role in determining the status and distribution of butterflies across the Bristol region.
