This spreadsheet details the copies of the Proceedings of the Bristol Naturalists Society (BNS) held by the Bristol Regional Environmental Records Centre (BRERC).
The BNS was formed in 1862. The earliest copy of their proceedings held at BRERC is from 1870, whilst the most recent dates from 2001.
The spreadsheet shows the period between 1870 and 2001 in years, and details whether BRERC hold a copy of the proceedings for each year.
For each year where BRERC hold a copy of the proceedings, there is also a detailed list of the special articles written for the copy of the proceedings. These articles are diverse in their range of subjects, but mostly focus on natural history. They are an excellent resource not only for information about natural history over the past 130 years, but also about the changing face of Bristol and the wider world, as well as society and attitudes.
Apart from these special articles, each copy of the proceedings also includes some or all of the following:
· A Report of the BNS Council
· Reports from various sections, including:
- Mammal Group
- Botanical Section
- Geological Section
- Ornithological Section
- Invertebrate Group
- Publication Committee
- Library Committee
All of the proceedings are available to view at BRERC for educational or research purposes. Unfortunately they cannot be taken away from our offices. If you would like to arrange a visit to study them, then please contact us.
